The instability and horrors that accompanied the 20th Century were a major cause of human exodus, and Australia became the preferred destination for many of those who wanted to start anew.
This film depicts the stories of three generations of Albanian migrants to Australia, their sacrifices and contribution towards their adopted country, as well as the strength of our cultural identity in the face of longing and separation. Their tales illustrate the experiences of all those who abandoned their families and fatherland in order to build a new home in a remote corner of the Earth, and they are not necessarily unique to Albanians.
Their accounts juxtapose with the endless spaces, unique nature, and prehistoric creatures that roamed this fascinating land for millennia, a land that to this day has the propensity to confront and mesmerize.
After a successful tour of cinemas around Australia’s capital cities and presentations at film festivals around the globe, we now proudly offer the chance view this heartwarming film in your own home.
Filmed over the course of one year in two continents , this documentary depicts how our protagonists became a bridge between two vastly different cultures , and for at least one of them presented the first opportunity to connect with long lost relatives after nearly a century.

ALBANIAN TRANSLATION

My name is Reg Qemal and I couldn’t be prouder to be the producer of this new documentary “Australia My Home: An Albanian Migration”.
Let me briefly explain how it all came about:
The filming took place in March-April 2019 with the story written and directed by Dritan Arbana who currently resides in Albania. He has been a very good friend of mine for over 20 years, living in Australia for 17 years prior to relocating back to his native Albania. He studied Drama at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga NSW. I shared the idea of doing this documentary with him over a few drinks in Albania back in 2018, and as I found out, it was something Dritan himself had contemplated doing while still in Australia. We both decided then and there to bring this project to life, and things happened very quickly after that!
The completion of the film was put on hold for a year and a half due to Covid, but finally in the second half of 2021 the almost completed documentary was submitted to festivals around the world. The film was selected in a few and has won awards, most notably the “people’s choice award” at the 2022 Melbourne Documentary Film Festival. This was after it had premiered internationally at the Tirana Film Festival in Albania in 2021, and screened at various festivals in the USA and throughout Europe. We have just wrapped up nationwide theatrical screenings in Australia’s capital cities of Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Canberra, and are now pleased to present the film to a wider international audience via Video On Demand and DVD. I hope you enjoy watching as much as I enjoyed seeing this project come to life.
